Justin Bieber, a talented singer who got discovered at a young age via YouTube. In late 2009, Bieber released his debut EP, The World, and he was only 14 years old during that time. The debut received an outstanding result, with the first week sales of more than 137,000 copies. However, you may not understand how he felt as a famous young boy and not knowing what he has gone through throughout the journey.

In his latest 'Lonely' music, he sings about the feeling of him becoming famous at such an early age—loneliness. It shows the dark and sad side of childhood stardom.

THE LYRICS

Justin Bieber has become a star at a very young age. In verse one, he wanted to express that everything has changed since then; it was no longer a usual childhood life because everything was under control. People were looking at what he did and spoke all the time; they also talked and criticized all the things he did.

In his latest documentary, Bieber also mentioned 'There were so many people who were just so mean.' Random people saying things like, 'You suck!', 'You look like a girl.' He might act like a strong boy outside, but all that stuff actually bothered him and affected how he acted and how he treated others. There were even several times where he had suicidal thoughts and thinking about will all these pains ever go away? As just a kid, all these things aren't supposed to happen in a childhood life, but Bieber had to take everything in. All these matters to him, which the pain was so consistent that he was suffering so hard.

In the pre-chorus, 'What if you had it all, but nobody to call?'

At a young age of 14, Bieber had everything that most of us wanted, money and fame, but one thing he did not have for sure, was an attentive listener. It arose in his feeling of being isolated as there wasn't any listener for him; he sometimes needed somebody to speak up to. Although he had friends, family, and many connections, Bieber felt that there was no one he could sincerely express and share all his things. Some people are fake; they may approach you for the sake of benefits. Who knows? This could be the reason why Bieber felt so lonely during his childhood stardom.

The second verse, 'Everybody knows my past now like my house was always made of glass' means that to become a star at an early age, Bieber sacrificed his privacy. A house is a lovely and comfortable place for people to live, but now Bieber describes his house as glass, which is transparent. It defines that everyone sees through his life; he doesn't have a personal life because every action he does and words he speaks are always under judgment. There is always a pair of eyes on him wherever he goes and whatever he does.

THE MUSIC VIDEO

The music video portrays the stages that Bieber has gone through last time. The entire music and video use a much more sober tone to correspond to the theme—lonely.

It starts off with Jacob Tremblay playing the role of a young Bieber, wearing the iconic purple hoodie and side-swept bangs hairstyle of Bieber's young era.

At the beginning of the video, a producer informs Tremblay it's time for him to get ready on stage. We can clearly see that Tremblay stands up to get prepared and put his hockey sticks aside unhappily. This portrays that the young Bieber had to follow every schedule and sacrifice a lot of things, where hockey is just one of the examples (hockey was one of Bieber's favourite sports).

The MV also shows the side of the young Bieber that we might have never seen, such as the nervousness he felt before every performance, the rehearsal he conducted, and the voice in his heart: he must prove to audiences that he can do his best and overcome the stage.

At the end of the video, we see Tremblay mouthing the word, 'I'm so lonely,' as he looked up to a completely empty audience, except for the one person, Justin Bieber. This represents that no one knows more about the loneliness and all the chapters he experienced than he does now.

People are just judgemental, critiquing everything, but nobody ever understands and appreciates all the effort he did behind the scenes. This is also why Bieber felt so lonely.

Despite the fact that Bieber had made many mistakes and had a bad childhood in the past, it is glad to see him in the recent years, he has turned over a new leaf and has his own love now, Hailey Bieber.
