Malaysia's New Generation of Music Producers

Teenagers have always been the driving force behind the development of pop music, but traditionally pop music has been produced by adults. The rapid development of modern technology has overturned the current way of recording and transmitting music, Therefore, while music is no longer limited to the five-string, music production involves a younger and younger demographic. They are able to produce music using their home laptops, downloaded sound cards and music production software, such as Ableton or FL Studio. If appreciated, the songs will be pre-recorded in the studio and elevated to a new level. Because it is no longer through the participation of the older generation, new and innovative music creation to satisfy the tastes of the youth. Malaysia is never far behind the times; some young music producers have stepped into the spotlight and have made their mark in the industry by gracing the stages of various prestigious festivals and signing with record labels.

We ‘re sure everyone has heard of the undeniably young and talented singer-songwriter. She released her first official single, "Okay" back in 2016, which has garnered over 2 million streams on Spotify and frequent radio play. And her second track, "Please Stay" released in late 2017, hit 1 million views. In the time that followed, she performed at numerous local and international festivals, Such as the 2016 Japanese Sky Music Festival, during the closing ceremony of the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia, Publika Jazz Festival, the 2017 Good Vibes Festival and Urbanscapes. Talitha has also appeared on stage with renowned performers such as Ali Ayman, Darren Ashley, and Manbai etc.

Life is full of change; this quote is perfect for Bil Mussa. She was musically gifted from an early age, began writing her own songs and studying piano at seven years old, but she never wanted to step into the music industry. Her talent was discovered by Yuna's manager while performing from her brother's friend's wedding. In 2014, she wrote for Yuna herself for Yuna Room Records. A year later, the talented Bil was officially signed to the label and successfully released her own independent EP and a full-length album. On her album "Young Adults", she retained her original sound and added a new dimension to her music with a unique folk style.


Bil is also an avid storyteller and writer who draws her charisma from her soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics. She has collaborated with independent band Enterprise, producing their English language Singles. She is also a regular at popular music festivals such as SoundSgood Rock the World and Iskarnival in the local area.



 

Kyoto Protocol


Kyoto Protocol is a five-piece rock band formed by Fuad Alhabshi (lead vocalist and guitarist), Gael Oliveres (keyboardist), Hairi Haneefa (guitarist), Shakeil Bashir (bassist) and Shanjeev Reddy (drummer). The Kyoto Protocol's first appearance in the limelight was at Yamaha Asian Beat in 2009, they got 2nd place in the final. They have come a long way since then, but they never disappoint. Unexpected musical inspirations can always bring a new feeling to the mind, they are undoubtedly the driving force behind the Malaysian music industry.

Since their inception, the band has won numerous awards; toured internationally, locally and regionally, performing at some of Malaysia's biggest festivals such as Good Vibes, Urbanscapes, Rockway, as well as Singapore's Baybeats and Taiwan's BeastieRock. In 2013, the band also performed at the Asian Future Music Festival. The band also kicked off for major bands such as The Killers and Tenacious D, and released four full-length albums, “An Album”, “Pahlawan”, “Catch These Men”and “The Pen Is Mightier”. Two of their hits from their debut album “An Album”, "Pussycat" and "Never Know", reached number one on various radio charts in 2011.


A new generation of music producers is on the rise and the music market is moving towards a new form of music with more people joining this rank. While the threshold is getting lower, it still requires the leadership of an older generation of musicians and a certain foundation in music theory as a prerequisite to allow the music presented to depth.
