On 24 July, American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift released her album “Folklore” just hours after its announcement. The album contains 16 songs in total. The album quickly reigned with limited resources to advertise and has charted at the top of Billboard for the past 10 weeks since its release, it also was the first million-selling album of the year. While accolades for Swift's songs are never lacking, what made the album so popular among the new generation?
We grew up at world moves at a breakneck speed. Because of the Internet and cell phones. As a new generation, we are constantly bombarded with new things and constantly information in the world, and we may crave retro than previous generations. This is reflected in our endless fascination with the aesthetics of the decade past, and we may be eager than ever to look back and look forward to a simpler era. It may be available through mainstream media sites and search engines, but it can't fill the old vinyl and CDS sitting on parents' shelves.
The “Folklore” is an album that resonates with our nostalgia for the past and mourning for what could have been. It's a unique album and a departure from Swift's previous pop style.
Reviewing the singer's isolated album, NME wrote that "Folklore" feels honest, avant-garde and, above all. Her brilliant work of the last half-decade has been dropped in lieu of gentler melodies and nostalgic instrumentation.
